Childhood Idols no. 5 - Family Portrait (Carroll, Big Bird, Deb (Carroll’s wife) & Oscar
I AM BIG BIRD week concludes today!
The story of how Carroll met his wife, Deb is an amazing one as well - a whirlwind romance that has lasted ever since their first meeting.
Whether we know him as Oscar the Grouch or Big Bird, if you watched Sesame Street, Carroll has undoubtedly touched you in some way - luckily he documented everything from his point of view and this is our chance to get a glimpse of that. Here’s the kickstarter that can make it all possible!Hope you enjoyed I AM BIG BIRD week!

Childhood Idols no. 3
I AM BIG BIRD week on drawNYC!
Carroll and his family used to have tons of adventures in their backyard - doing everything from filming movies, lake swimming parties to sledding and tobogganing. Carroll seemed to have as much fun as his kids, if not more.
Check out Copper Pot Pictures’ KICKSTARTER for their documentary I AM BIG BIRD - from what I’ve seen, it’s going to be AMAZING.

Childhood Idols no. 2 (Carroll Spinney, Kermit Love & Oscar the Grouch)
I AM BIG BIRD week!
Carroll has been the man behind Oscar the Grouch since his inception. Oscar was originally orange, but was later turned green. The puppet has never been changed so as to make him seem more ‘grouchy’ and ‘dirty’. Carroll also carries Oscar around where ever he goes.
The man to the right of Carroll is the inimitable Kermit Love - the man who helped bring all of Jim Henson’s Sesame Street puppet designs to life.
Copper Pot Pictures is making a documentary on Carroll Spinney and would love our help to get the documentary made - here’s their kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iambigbird/i-am-big-bird help out and share if you can!! -

Childhood Idols no. 1 (unknown, Big Bird, Jim Henson & Carroll Spinney)
It’s I AM BIG BIRD week on drawNYC!
Two very talented filmmakers by the names of David Lamattina & Chad Walker, as part of Copper Pot Pictures are making an amazing documentary about the life and times of the most famous person you never knew: Carroll Spinney. Carroll has been the man behind such muppets as Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch, and is one of the last of the original muppeteers. Carroll worked alongside Jim Henson and Frank Oz and created one of the most memorable characters in recent memory. Carroll was also an avid filmmaker, animator, storyteller, actor, and director among other things and has kept 8mm home video footage since before he began his career. You’ll be blown away by some of the very amazing memories captured on film that never intended to be shown to the public.
Dave and Chad need our help to finish the film, and have a kickstarter set up where they’re releasing some behind the scenes footage as well as some amazing pictures - and some unbelievable incentives including a session with Carroll & Oscar the Grouch! Check it out here and donate if you can: I AM BIG BIRD KICKSTARTERAll week, I’ll be using pictures throughout Carroll’s life and adding a bit of drawNYC to one of the most staple of NYC landmarks - Sesame Street.
